The Stockholm region has secretly purchased 19 million respiratory masks from China.
The deal has been characterized by fears of kidnappings and other dramas in the tense international market.
The acquisition is a collaboration between various regions, which together pay approximately SEK 500 million for the masks.
The Stockholm region has recently signed a very comprehensive agreement with a Chinese supplier of respiratory masks.
It is about 19 million respiratory masks for which it pays approximately 500 million Swedish crowns.
– In total, there are more than 19 million masks. The price depends on the current exchange rate in the Chinese currency, but it is around half a trillion, says Roger Eklund, purchasing director for the Stockholm Region.
“It was a problem”
In the agreement, the Stockholm Region has been the national coordinator and the specially established “Command Center” function in Karolinska has logistically controlled the international acquisition.
– We are 20 regions bought together. This was the first major joint effort to be carried out and carried out through the Command Center in Karolinska. It has been very intense work on the part of our team in Karolinska that has been successful in this and of course you are welcome, says Roger Eklund.
The agreement has been surrounded by confidentiality and, during the project, according to information from Aftonbladet, the kidnapping was feared and that other state competitors in the world market could disturb the agreement.
– There have been problems. Partly logistically in China, but also to take them from the factory in China to Sweden and out of China, says Roger Eklund.
The Swedish Armed Forces have also been involved in the transaction in terms of securing transportation, according to information from Aftonbladet.
On-site staff in China
To manage the business, the Stockholm Region and its partners have had a team of on-site staff in China, staff who worked with due diligence to follow the agreement.
– There were staff on site in China through the partners we have, says Roger Eklund.
Recently, the first planes, including the SAS, landed in respiratory masks.
– Now the first deliveries have started to arrive and will run in May and a little until June, says Roger Eklund.
