Yes or no to a wind farm in Ripfjället? Residents of the Malung-Sälen municipality will take a position on this issue on Sunday.

The question concerns the controversial wind power construction at Ripfjället west of Malung, with 30 wind turbines planned. After a large collection of names demanded that a referendum be held on the plans, the issue was raised in city council in May. 22 members voted no to the popular initiative, while 14 voted in favor. Two-thirds were asked to vote against stopping the initiative.

Advisory early voting began on September 19. All Swedish citizens over the age of 18 who are registered with the municipality can vote. According to SVT Nyheter Dalarna, there are just over 8,000 eligible voters in the municipality.

This is the first referendum to take place in Sweden after the outbreak of the crown pandemic.
