Travel within metropolitan regions has decreased by 14 percent since the Swedish Public Health Agency introduced local restrictions in Skåne, Västra Götaland and Stockholm. It shows an analysis of movement patterns that Telia has made where it tracked people’s mobile phones through anonymized data.

The decrease refers to how travel looked between Monday and Wednesday in week 45 and Monday and Wednesday in week 43. Travel from all three regions also decreased by nearly 15 percent.

“Our data and analysis show that the Swedes actually followed the stricter advice of the Public Health Agency. It is a large and rapid reduction in travel, behavior changed in the beginning overnight,” says Kristofer Ågren, chief of data analysis of Telia’s commercial area, in a press release.

Compared to the same period in 2019, trips decreased between 30% and 40%.
