Sales were up 41 percent during the week, Monday through Friday, compared to last year, according to Klarna. On Friday alone, sales were up 16 percent. Klarna handles about half of all online purchases in Sweden.
“We have seen a huge increase in e-commerce throughout the week and this year’s Black Friday was the most important e-commerce day ever,” says Viveka Söderbäck, consumer expert at Klarna, according to a statement from press.
Nets, a company that offers solutions for digital payments, also notes that total sales this week increased compared to last year, by nine percent. Nets produces its figures by examining transactions in Swedish online stores and by surveys of consumers and retailers.
However, according to Nets, e-commerce declined nine percent on Friday.
Previously, Friday was the most important shopping day for the week, but customer habits have started to change and shopping is now spread out over several days, according to Klarna.
The products that increase the most compared to a normal day are electronics, products for children and entertainment. It is among 66-75 year olds that online shopping has increased the most compared to last year.
