South Korea continues to post depressing peaks. The country’s health authorities said on Monday they have reported a record number of deaths linked to COVID-19 on Sunday 24. Last Friday, 22 deaths were reported as the new highest level.

The authorities also warn that health care is affected. In the Seoul metropolitan area, for example, there were only four openings in intensive care units on Sunday.

The government has ordered private hospitals to release more than 300 places of care for corona patients and has set aside the equivalent of 37 million Swedish crowns to compensate hospitals.

However, they do not want to impose stricter restrictions, instead they see it as a last resort. But according to the Yonhap news agency, tighter restrictions are being considered locally in Seoul.

On Friday, raids were carried out at some 60 bars, restaurants and karaoke clubs in Seoul when violations of existing restrictions were suspected.
