Hope lives on for RB Leipzig.

Emil Forsberg’s gang won the completely insane match against Istanbul Basaksehir with 4-3.

– This is the sickest thing I’ve been through in a long time, says commentator Claes Andersson on Viaplay.

Basaksehir’s 25-year-old midfielder Irfan Kahveci scored a hat trick in the match, but it didn’t help much when Emil Forsberg’s team scored four (!) Goals.

The Swede was involved in RB Leipzig’s 2-0 goal in the 43rd minute when he played against Nordi Mukiele. Shortly after, Kahveci just mentioned reduced with the first of the night.

And then there would be more.

Late winning goal

After Dani Olmo’s 3-1 goal against RB Leipzig in the 66th minute, Kahveci quickly stepped forward with two fresh goals and from time to time seemed to be a great hero of the match.

But no.

Because in the second extra minute, the Norwegian Alexander Sörloth placed the final result 4-3 with what was his first goal with the RB Leipzig jersey.

The victory means that the German club climbs to nine recorded points. That’s the same number of points that PSG and Manchester United have. RB Leipzig are currently in third place due to worse goal difference in mutual encounters. A great drama awaits in the sixth and final round of play.

Became historical

Irfan Kahveci? It became historic, in an irritating way.

He is, according to Opta, the third player in the history of the Champions League to score a hat-trick in a game that the team still loses.

Ronaldo did it for Real Madrid against Manchester United in April 2003, and Gareth Bale did it for Tottenham against Inter in October 2010.
