Rape victim alerted police: no one came to the rescue

So says chamber prosecutor Stina Sjöqvist, who on Friday indicted a 23-year-old man for the notorious murder in Härnösand this spring. The woman who was repeatedly raped in connection with the murder alerted the police twice, but received no help.

The course of events in the apartment in Härnösand lasts an hour and a half.

– The woman has called the emergency number 112 and has been connected with the police on at least two occasions during the incident, says the prosecutor of the room Stina Sjöqvist.

What happens then on the part of the police?

– Yes, not much happens. She requests police assistance and claims that there is a person in the apartment threatening her with a knife. She makes the first call at 06:38 but no police arrive at the scene until after eight.

According to the prosecutor, the woman’s first alarm call comes early in the course of events before the worst violence occurs.

When the police arrive, the 19-year-old from Hälsingland appears seriously injured in the apartment. The woman has been raped twice and another person has been the target of an attempted murder.

What do you say about the police being alert but not coming?

– It is clear that it is remarkable that the police will not come, but an investigation is underway on this, so I do not want to comment further on that, says Stina Sjöquist.
