For the 54th time, two of tennis’s biggest hits came together. This time in the final of the French Open at the Court Philippe Chatrier in Paris.

Rafael Nadal has won the tournament twelve times, Novak Djokovic once. Everything had been prepared for a giant encounter between the world coach and the world number two.

Turned into a thriller

Nadal started the first set and was in full control. In fact, it never got exciting and the Spaniard won with a landslide 6-0.

The second set started the same as the previous one. He takes control of Nadal, but Djokovic played a bit, but never managed to upset the “King of Gravel”, who also won the second set 6-2.

The third set was a long thriller. Djokovic took a 4-3 lead but Nadal responded by leveling the game. In the end, the Spaniard won 7-5, claiming his 13th French Open title and his 20th Grand Slam title. Roger Federer also has 20 Grand Slam titles.

“They have been tough conditions”

With the title, the Gravel King improves on its incomparable performance on the red streets. Now he has won 100 of a total of 102 matches. He has only lost twice, once against Robin Söderling in 2009 and once against Novak Djokovic in 2015.

– It’s been a great couple of weeks for me. I want to thank everyone who has made it possible to compete this year. It hasn’t been easy considering what the outside world is like. I feel the support of everyone, even of you who could not be here. For me, winning here is something that I couldn’t have imagined. I am very happy, says Rafael Nadal in the victory interview and continues:

– They have been difficult conditions. Now we can’t celebrate together like we used to. But thanks for being behind me. I hope when we come back next year it will be full. Hold on and take care of yourself.
