Many Swedes are planning their summer vacation in full swing, but so far there are no recommendations for travel and activities.

According to the Public Health Authority, it takes several weeks for them to arrive.

“Short plans are valid,” says department head Karin Tegmark Wisell.

As summer approaches, more and more Swedes are beginning to think about what their holidays will be like this year. Is it free to go to your country? Can I go camping? Will there be restrictions on the number of people on the beaches?

The questions are many, but so far, the Public Health Authority has not come up with any recommendations for the summer.

According to department head Karin Tegmark Wisell, more evidence is needed before the authority can give any advice.

– We are carrying out several investigations, among other things, to see how many people have suffered from the infection and if it differs in the country, he says.

Follow current advice

The message for those who are currently thinking about what to do this summer is to start with the recommendations that exist today. This means, for example, giving up unnecessary travel.

“I understand that you want to plan, but today we have no messages,” says Karin Tegmark Wisell.

But isn’t it too late to make recommendations in a few weeks, are people planning their vacation now?

– I understand that and then you have to relate to the situation we are in here and now. We still have a serious situation. People die every day.

So right now, for example, shouldn’t you expect to travel to a country this summer?

– It depends on how that trip looks in more detail, but we have to go back to it. The important thing is that you travel safely and that you do not transmit the infection from different parts of the country to other parts.

I’m not sure about traveling to Europe

Political scientist Bo Rothstein of the University of Gothenburg recently said in an interview with the Dagens Nyheter newspaper that Swedes should be able to travel to Europe this summer. He said Sweden is currently one of the most dangerous countries, considering the spread of the corona virus.

“Why should we not go to regions in Europe where there is much less risk of being?” He tells DN.

The Public Health Agency also has no advice or message to give to Swedes.

– I have not thought about this, then we have to wait until the countries have opened their borders, says Karin Tegmark Wisell.

– In principle, the risk is not higher in other countries, where it is more about going abroad than risking getting sick and then burdening other health care systems. And also if you travel from a region with a high infection, you risk taking it to a region with a low infection. There are several considerations to make on this.
