– We have opted for a temporary local tightening of the general councils. It is an opportunity for the Swedish Public Health Agency to decide in consultation with infection control doctors that certain measures can be taken, says Bitte Bråstad, General Counsel of the Swedish Public Health Agency, at Tuesday’s press conference.
– We can, for example, decide whether to refrain from using public transport, visiting special homes, not visiting shopping centers if it is not necessary, being in an indoor environment where many people gather. It may be refraining from restaurant visits and physical contact with people you don’t live with.
The strictest rules it can be introduced in a region or part of a region as of October 19. The measures will mainly apply for a shorter period, two weeks, but can be extended if necessary.
The background to the new model is the increased spread of the infection now seen in various parts of the country. Clear increases are seen in Stockholm, Jämtland Härjedalen and Örebro County, among others. In Uppsala, where the spread of infection has been great in relation to student parties in recent weeks, infection control doctor Johan Nöjd is sure of the new opportunity.
Is it relevant to introduce local recommendations in Uppsala?
“Yes, but we can talk to the Public Health Agency. I am trying to have a meeting with Tegnell tomorrow,” Johan Nöjd writes to DN.
If Jämtland Härjedalen and Örebro counties plan to contact the Public Health Agency for the same matter, it could not be reported Tuesday night.
Sweden has 100,654 confirmed cases of covid-19. Daily numbers are beginning to approach March and April levels, but according to state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell, the fall numbers are not comparable to spring.
– Today we test three to four times more people each week. It is not a comparable epidemic in any way, which is especially noticeable in the number of VAT cases, he says at the press conference.
Since before Various countries in Europe have introduced different crown rules for different regions based on the geographic spread of the infection. Spain, for example, has closed Madrid for the second time, the capital most affected.
On Monday, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the country’s new strategy, in which cities and regions are divided into three risk levels – medium, high and very high – depending on the current situation. In Liverpool, where the risk is considered to be highest at the moment, pubs and gyms, among others, will close from Wednesday.
According to Anders Tegnell, there are great similarities between the British and Swedish models.
– They are based on the same basic idea, that now we must try to prevent infection locally depending on the problems and conditions that exist. You can make it more or less structured. We choose to do it in a dialogue model. In the UK, they want a very clear system.
Is the Swedish model more flexible?
– Yes, we hope so.
What is the biggest cloud of concern right now given the increased spread of the infection?
– That we are starting to get tired of living like this and that we no longer take the advice we have seriously, says Anders Tegnell.
