For the third night in a row, there has been violence between police and protesters as people protested in Spanish cities against the arrest of a musician earlier this week.

Several people have been arrested and several have reportedly been injured.

In Barcelona, police fired tear gas while protesters set up barricades in the streets and attacked the newsroom of the newspaper El Periódico de Catalunya in Barcelona.

It was on Tuesday that Hasél, whose real name is Pablo Rivadulla, was arrested inside a Lleida university where he had barricaded himself with fans and supporters.

On Friday he was forced to surrender to the authorities to begin a nine-month sentence. The controversial verdict concerns Twitter posts and lyrics where the rapper, among other things, has criticized the monarchy and accused the police of torturing and murdering protesters and migrants.

He was found guilty of libel, libel, and glorification of terrorism.

Hundreds of cultural workers, including film director Pedro Almodóvar and Hollywood actor Javier Bardem, have signed a protest list against the prison sentence.
