Protests critical of the government in Thailand continue. On Wednesday, thousands of protesters occupied a large intersection in Bangkok. It is the first protest of its kind since last Saturday, when police used tear gas, rubber bullets and water cannons to stop a protest. More than 30 people were injured.

The student-led protests call for reforms of the king’s power and the resignation of Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-O-Cha.

Another demand is that protesters jailed for insulting the monarchy, a crime that could result in 15 years in prison in Thailand, be released. More than 70 protesters have been charged with the crime and a dozen are in custody.

– No matter how many of our friends arrest, 10 or 100, we will not stay inside, says Benja Apan, one of the leaders of the protest.
