Protests against station hosts greeting travelers

According to an official statement from the Stockholm Traffic Administration, “customer value” increases significantly if station hosts leave their curfews and exercise at the ticket office. They then have “great opportunities to encourage customers,” management writes, emphasizing that this in turn creates recognition and reduces the risk of cheating.

But according to the Seko union, the increase in customer value comes at the expense of the station’s hosts’ safety, reports the local newspaper Mitt i.

Tuesday showed union members outside the traffic administration office regarding the matter to be decided by the traffic committee.

– It’s mainly about our safety. “We are very exposed at the box office,” Jan Melakoski, who works as a security guard in the subway, tells the newspaper.

Moving station hosts from their barrier kiosks to ticket offices is part of working with the Stockholm Region’s so-called development strategy to generate revenue from public transport. In addition, they want to increase the number of kiosks and cafes at the stations. New advertising and lighting areas that simulate daylight in underground stations are other proposed measures.
