The National Unit against Organized and International Crime will examine the Estonian disaster.

Prosecutors will investigate whether crimes may have been committed.

The unit’s prosecutors have the case on their desk to examine whether a preliminary investigation into the sinking should be launched.

– The prosecutor has decided that the case will be handled by a prosecutor from the unit, confirms to TT Karin Rosander, director of communications for the prosecution.

The case must be handled at the first legal level, which means that the prosecutor to whom the case is assigned starts from the beginning.

The reason is that new circumstances may have arisen around the sinking in the new documentary about Estonia, writes SR.

In connection with the 22-year-old sinking, prosecutors examined the case and later concluded that a preliminary investigation initiated by the police should be closed.

The decision was reviewed on two more levels, with a final review to the prosecutor who reached the same conclusion.

It is not known how long it will take before prosecutors make a decision on whether to launch a formal preliminary investigation.
