Young men talked about murders, linked to ecofascism

Two young men have been charged with arson against a mink farm in Sölvesborg.
The indictment is the first in Sweden with links to far-right eco-fascism. The FBI has assisted in the investigation.
– It is in ideologies that society is falling into disrepair and decline must be accelerated, says prosecutor Henrik Olin.
During the autumn holidays of 2019, two boys go to Sölvesborg to camp and release mink. They are then 17 and 19 years old and we call them Filip and Oskar.
In “Discord,” a chat show for computer gamers, friends discuss which nature preserve they should sleep in, what they should bring for soups, and whether they should use a camp stove that runs on gas or t-red.

“We can bring a tent, cooking liquor, sleeping bag,” wrote “Filip”, 17.
When the farm turns out to be empty, they set the building on fire instead. 17-year-old Filip is said to have filmed the fire and submits a clip to “The Green Brigade” organization, which shares the clip with the text:
“We salute our troops who carried out a successful operation in Sweden!”

The fire was “on the verge of staggering” to spread, according to the prosecutor.

The security police have been investigating the case for almost a year. On Thursday, the youths were charged with arson.
It is the first accusation in Sweden related to “eco-fascism”, a form of violent right-wing extremism. Ideology is not entirely easy to define.
The organization “The Green Brigade” wants to act against the system that uses the natural environment and also to preserve the white race. This according to a statement from the FBI included in the investigation. The organization overlaps with the neo-Nazi and paramilitary “The Base”, who according to the FBI wants to create a white ethnostat in the United States.
Fredrik Hallström, director of Säpo’s counter-terrorism and constitutional protection unit, says the type of groups is global and web-based.
– Not infrequently they are linked to accelerationism: That it is perceived that the world order that is applied today must change, and must change through a collapse of society, says Fredrik Hallström.
Brenton Tarrant, who shot 51 people to death in the terrorist attack on mosques in Christchurch, used the term accelerationism in his manifesto, according to the FBI statement.
The Säpo unit manager says murder and serious violent crime are often incited in these network settings.
How do followers think society is in decline?
– This is where you should be vigilant. You cannot have the traditional picture of what the different extremist environments represent and what issues are relevant. It may be about the oppression of the Swedes and that the Swedes are seen as a minority. Capitalism. A failed refugee policy. Perhaps a lack of national freedom. The role of women in society. Environment and how to profit from the land, says Fredrik Hallström as some examples.

Both before and after the fire at the mink farm, Filip and Oskar discussed other possible attacks.
In June 2019, they discuss the attack on an abortion clinic in central Stockholm.
“I have a design idea for firebombs,” Filip writes, submitting a simple drawing with, among other things, napalm.
In January 2020, Oskar will post a link from an alternate news site. The article is about a 19-year-old immigrant man who committed a sex crime against a 13-year-old girl and was sentenced to probation and community service.
“It could bombard the judge,” Oskar writes.
“I like that. Who is the judge? Filip responds.
The friends discuss how to find out who the judge is through public documents. They also talk about the car bomb attack or the shooting murder of the man who committed the sex crime.
“Until society itself can create justice, it is up to the citizens to do so,” writes Oskar.
Säpo has investigated these two plans. But suspicions about the stigma of sabotage that could pose a danger to the public and the stigma of murder have been removed.
– These are cursed words that are said in a youthful sense, I would sum it up. There is no connection to the reality behind it, and it is partially taken out of context, says lawyer Anders Björk, who represents Oskar.

In April 2020, Oskar, now 20, was arrested by the Säpo on suspicion of the murder arson in Sölvesborg.
A security policeman asks in an interrogation what Oskar thinks about mink farms and similar animal breeders.
“I am not a radical vegan. I am chewing meat.”
But in subsequent questioning, Oskar admits to the vandalism. The idea of lighting a fire in the building must have come up on the spot. Oskar is asked again what he doesn’t like about mink farms.
“I don’t like, vulgar industry, worthless, for example, food for the people. Only expensive clothes, of course minks are treated badly ”.

“Filip” poses in an SS uniform.
On Oskar’s computer is a folder on the terrorist attack in Christchurch, with Brenton Tarrant’s manifesto.
The security police also ask questions about photographs in which friend Filip is wearing a uniform. Oskar says it’s an SS uniform.
Why are the SS known?
“An elite unit, German, from World War II. I like military history. “
What did the SS do?
“It is rumored that they were in concentration camps.”
Rumor has it, what do you mean?
“I’m not 100 percent sure that only they did it.”
Do you deny the Holocaust?
“No, but a lot of evidence is destroyed.”

Filip, who is now 18 years old, says on questioning that he previously had sympathies with the Nazis. He says he helped “The Green Brigade” edit photos, but he doesn’t know if that makes him count as a member.
He was previously a member of the Nazi group “The Base”.
“They are preparing for society to collapse and order to collapse. I have no idea how society will collapse.”
Filip says he joined the group to find like-minded people, but left when he didn’t share his views.
“I thought their thoughts were very dark and it wasn’t very pleasant to be with or talk to them. They were also pagan, which was strange,” says Filip.
During questioning, Filip admitted serious bodily injury, but not arson. His lawyer Ulrika Borg has no comment on connections to eco-fascism and pro-violence movements.
Oskar has also admitted serious bodily injury, but denies being provoked.
“I’m sorry about all this, I shouldn’t have been persuaded,” Oskar says in questioning.
His lawyer Anders Björk says that the client has no sympathy for the violent movements.
– It is firmly rejected. He has no such connections at all, says Anders Björk.

Henrik Olin, a prosecutor for the National Security Affairs Unit, says there is ample evidence, such as photographs, chat conversations and “memes”, and that both defendants have admitted they were at the scene.
No mink died in the fire. The burning building was valued at SEK 200,000.
– But he almost tripped and it was only a matter of minutes before the fire spread to a building next door, and is valued at about 4 million, says Henrik Olin.
According to the prosecutor, the two young people have shown sympathy for the organizations “La Base” and “La Brigada Verde”.
– There have been discussions with other people in these movements where they have discussed the possibility of carrying out some kind of murder. But not that there is a clear instigator of this fire, it is probably more a call to do something. And that is also in these ideologies. That society is in decline, but this decline must be accelerated by force, says Henrik Olin.
Note: Oskar, 20, and Filip, 18, actually have different names.
