Donald Trump claims that he can forgive himself and avoid punishment for any crimes he has already committed.
Dag Blanck, a professor of American studies, believes Trump may be right.

The President of the United States has the right to pardon convicted persons, according to the Constitution of the United States.
2018 tweeted Donald Trump that “a large number of lawyers have stated that I have the absolute right to forgive myself.”
His term as president will end soon if Joe Biden wins the November 3 presidential election. Then Donald Trump has time for the presidential inauguration on January 20, 2021 to pardon the prisoners. And maybe himself.
Dag Blanck, professor of North American Studies, answers the question of whether Trump can forgive himself:
– It is possible that it could, but there is no clear precedent (note from the Reds: previous verdict) to continue there. It is an unclear situation. But it is clear that he could forgive himself if he had been convicted of something.
– On the other hand, you have to remember that President Nixon was not convicted of any crime when President Ford pardoned him, but there was a kind of blank pardon. The pardon referred to any crime that Nixon had committed before resigning.

What if Trump in white forgives himself?
– There was going to be a big fight about it.
What is your evaluation? Would such forgiveness be valid?
– I’d have to try. This is a Moment 22 situation, because the courts may be less inclined to deal with these cases.
Why?
– Because there is forgiveness. So surely the first question would be “can we process?” because there is forgiveness. Interest in prosecuting Nixon waned after Ford’s clemency.

What crimes may Trump have already committed?
– The New York Times articles in recent days about his tax deal show that he is heavily in debt. Then the question of dependency arises, if you can show that there are some bribes.
What could it be for bribes?
– There are various speculations about who or what redeemed the debts. We don’t know anything about that. But if you read the book “Rage” by Bob Woodward, even the head of national intelligence, Daniel Coats, says that it is very difficult to understand Trump’s reluctant attitudes towards Russia. He says he can’t understand it and wonders if there is any control over him. That is the reasoning, but it is pure speculation.
If Trump forgives himself, should one interpret it indirectly to mean that he himself knows that he has committed a crime?
– Perhaps. I can’t have a definitive opinion on that, says Dag Blanck.
