The prime minister’s annual Christmas speech on Sunday night was marked by the crown pandemic. But the tone was different from the press conferences held in the fall.

– No matter how you usually celebrate Christmas, it will probably be different, but one thing is the same. The message of Christmas and the reminder of love, companionship and solidarity. That message is very important this year, said the Prime Minister.

“Hold out a hand”

Stefan Löfven addressed a special greeting to those who celebrate Christmas alone this year.

– Loneliness can be a suffocating darkness, but maybe there is someone with whom you can open up. Unfortunately, I can’t call everyone who comes across Christmas alone, but I promise to call a few. I wish more people did that. Call, hold out a hand, said the Prime Minister.

Thanked people

Löfven also took the opportunity to thank those who contributed to reducing the spread of the infection.

– We have all cursed this year but we have also been part of the solution. During this year, I have asked you to do everything you can to stop the spread of the infection. Now I want to thank you for this year and wish you a very Merry Christmas.

Recognized deficiencies

Over the year, shortcomings in Sweden’s organization have become clear, said the Prime Minister, who now promises improvements.

– We won’t be going back there. After the crisis, Sweden will build stronger, better. Elderly care, security, health school, we need to make it even more robust.
