Pregnant women and newborns are more concerned about the ongoing pandemic than the risk group over 70 years of age. It shows new research published today, reports Swedish radio Ekot.
The research, which was conducted at the Sahlgrenska Academy, also shows that people are more dissatisfied with BB care now compared to before the pandemic, in part because there is a shortage of staff and the available staff is under pressure.
– You are more worried now than you usually are and this is a group where it is good that they are not worried, because worry during this period is something you should try to address, says research leader Elin Naurin on the radio.
More than 7,000 people participated in the study, and 3,000 of them responded to three questionnaires both during pregnancy and after the birth of the children.
The responses showed that pregnant women and their partners think more about the coronavirus and its consequences than risk groups older than 70 years.
– This is a group that cannot refrain from worrying. They must be careful, they cannot refrain from giving birth. There’s nothing you can create queues of attention with and wait, and then you’re exposed when attention is under pressure, Elin Laurin tells Ekot.
Another concern is that the couple must have symptoms of Covid-19 and will not be allowed to attend the delivery. In some parts of the country, the couple cannot be in BB at all after birth.
