Once again it is possible to cross the border between Mozambique and South Africa. But all travelers entering and leaving Mozambique must submit a negative coronavirus test, and Mozambican authorities have discovered that false tests are being sold at the border.
Since October 1, it has been possible to cross the border between Mozambique and South Africa again. But all travelers entering and leaving Mozambique must submit a negative coronavirus test that is no older than 72 hours, and now Mozambican authorities have discovered that false tests are sold at the border that always give negative results.
“We will work with identification and authentication mechanisms so that test results are more reliable,” Daniel Chemane, head of medical care in the capital Maputo, told state radio.
So far, only private healthcare providers have done testing. A source in the country’s Health Ministry says the government will now conduct its own virus tests and certifications.
One problem is that a test costs the equivalent of 450-900 SEK, which is roughly equivalent to the minimum monthly wage in Mozambique and is something that many travelers consider too onerous.
