Until now, police have been involved in the fatal shooting, which took place in downtown Portland, Oregon. In his earlier statements, Police Chief Chuch Lovell did not release information about either the victim or an alleged perpetrator.

But on Sunday, the founder of the Patriot Prayers organization, Joey Gibson, confirmed that the deceased was a supporter of the movement, which according to the New York Times and the AP is far to the right.

On Saturday, clashes broke out between Trump supporters and protesters from the Black Lives Matter movement in Portland. Police declined to comment on whether the shooting had anything to do with the riots.

After the shooting, videos were circulated on social media that were allegedly of the incident. Police have previously said that they are aware of the films, but that the investigation must be allowed to continue before any conclusions can be drawn.

So far no one has been arrested and the police have asked the public for clues.

– If anyone can provide information on this case, I ask that they contact our investigators. This violence is completely unacceptable and we work diligently to find and arrest the person or persons responsible, Police Chief Chuck Lovell says in a press release.

Protests against racism and police violence have raged in Portland for more than 90 nights in a row after the police intervention that led to George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis in May.

President Donald Trump has previously harshly criticized Mayor Ted Wheeler, who does not want federal forces to intervene in the city.

According to Trump, action is needed to quell the unrest in Portland.
