Pollen season continues: “Waiting for grass now” | hallandsposten

In the western parts of Sweden, for so many traitors, birch pollen is starting to ring. But in Stockholm and eastern Sweden, levels are still relatively high.

– In the Stockholm area, birch is still the worst, but the peak has probably passed, Åslög Dahl tells TT.

– Then the grass pollen waits in its place. It will last all summer. My advice for allergy sufferers is to take your medicine and follow the forecasts. So you shouldn’t exercise outdoors when there are high levels, because then you inhale pollen.

Dahl has another tip that can alleviate allergy problems, something many people probably don’t think about.

“You should think about washing your hair frequently, because pollen is in the hair and can easily end up on the pillow in bed,” she says.

Allergy symptoms may be somewhat similar to those of the corona virus. But, Åslög Dahl points out, there are also differences.

– It is very rare with fever when you have an allergy and, as I understand it, it is a common symptom of corona or covid-19. Common allergy symptoms are runny and itchy eyes, mouth, and throat.

People with a pollen allergy often have various symptoms, including sniffing and nasal congestion, sneezing, itchy nose, itchy and red eyes and fatigue.

In spring, birch pollen is more common, in summer it is more common with grass pollen.

Most people with pollen allergies do not need to seek care, but they can first treat the allergy with over-the-counter medications.

About a fifth of all teens and adults in Sweden have pollen problems in the spring and summer. The number of people with pollen allergies has increased, but in recent times the increase seems to have slowed down a bit.
