Several brutal acts during the summer are related to the gang conflict in Stockholm.

Now begins “Portia”, a special effort to try to break the spiral of violence.

– We invest both visible and hidden resources, says Anders Bryngelsson in the police.

Several criminal networks are believed to be involved in the new conflict that has broken out in the western part of Stockholm.

To try to stop the escalation of violence, which has claimed several lives and been further injured, the police are launching a so-called special event.

The decision means, among other things, that he can obtain an additional number of police officers in an operation directed against gangs.

– This means that we can better direct and distribute our resources. The operation is taking place as part of a local special event called Portia, says Anders Bryngelsson, a press spokesman for the Stockholm Police.

The reason is the numerous acts of violence this summer.

– We have a conflict between different people in Rinkeby who are linked to criminal networks. I will not exemplify which cases during the summer are related to this effort.

Theory: a series of acts of revenge

According to information from Aftonbladet, Portia is investigating four murders and ten attempted murders.

  • The first murder concerns a fatal assault in Tensta on July 1. A young gang member was found in the middle of the night bloodied and unconscious on a street. He was hospitalized for a long time, but later died of serious head injuries, according to the same information.

Aftonbladet has previously been able to report that the police had a theory that the perpetrators tried to get revenge for the fatal beating on at least two occasions:

  • On July 10, two men, armed with automatic rifles, entered the center of Tensta on a moped. The men drove to a place where there were several of a criminal network. But before the perpetrators had time to shoot, a police patrol appeared and managed to avoid the act of revenge.

  • On August 13, a 22-year-old leader of the Rinkeby “Shottaz” gang was shot and killed with multiple shots. The murder, which is described as a pure execution, took place in front of several witnesses.

The fatal shooting of the 22-year-old gang leader in Rinkeby is the second murder being investigated in Special Operation Portia, according to Aftonbladet sources.

  • The third murder occurred on August 20. Early in the morning, a 21-year-old man who was shot and killed was found on a trail in Spånga. According to information from Aftonbladet, he is also linked to a gang.

  • Just yesterday, early Thursday night, a 19-year-old man was shot and killed in Husby. The murder, which is the fourth in Portia, is linked to the ongoing conflict. According to information from Aftonbladet, the victim belonged to one of the Stockholm “underworld” networks.

With Operation Portia, the police want to prevent further acts from happening, but at the same time find culprits for unsolved violent crimes.

– We take a great holistic approach to the problem and gather forces against the spiral of violence. We will prosecute and create safety for those who live and work in the area, says Anders Bryngelsson.

Police: risk of continuing

He does not want to comment on how many police officers will work with the special incident, but says that, among other things, they will work with recognition and increased police presence.

– Parallel to these investigations, we work to carry out preventive work to prevent new acts of violence. We see the risk that it will continue and we are working to achieve it.

Anders Bryngelsson points out that the public is an important part in suppressing criminal gangs. Therefore, they want information that can lead the suspects to the police.

– It is very important that if you see something or have any other information you contact the police, to help together to calm the area and catch those who create this insecurity and violence.
