Police on the record weekend: “Stay on the carpet”

Since Christmas Eve, alcohol sales in restaurants and restaurants after 8:00 p.m. were just a memory.

Several house parties were expected during the big welcome night, but on Christmas Day it remained calm.

In Gothenburg, only three to four people were arrested for drunkenness, compared to last year, when the police detained about 40 people.

– It has been a record weekend of calm. It’s a sign that people have really come to terms with the restrictions and the call to stay home, says Christer Fuxborg, a police spokesman in the western region.

“The public deserves a pat on the back”

Police expected some trouble at house parties, but that did not happen.

– There should not have been an increase in concerned neighbors or the like. People stay on the mat. We can only hope the New Year lasts too, says Fuxborg.

It also says that more cases were reported during Christmas Eve and Christmas Day this year compared to last year: 217 and 164 respectively.

But according to Christer Fuxborg, there is an explanation:

– We have made a lot of efforts on the roads. The idea was to prevent traffic accidents so as not to overburden healthcare, says Fuxborg, explaining that many cases also involved mental illness.

– But otherwise, there have hardly been any serious crimes or disputes, such as in the pub. The audience simply deserves a pat on the back.
