A Karlskrona policeman was seriously injured on Wednesday night after being hit by a New Year’s rocket. The injury situation is said to be serious but not life-threatening.

At 9.30 pm, several police officers were called to a residential area of Karlskrona, where it was claimed that there were problems with people firing rockets at properties. When the police arrived, they were also shot.

– The place was quite messy and we had to stay a long time, says Magnus Lefèvre, police officer on duty.

The situation of the wounded police officer is considered serious but not life-threatening. According to Magnus Lefèvre, another policeman was hit by a rocket, but should only have received minor injuries.

A report of aggravated sabotage and violence against an official has been drawn up.

During Christmas and holidays, police districts across the country have reported hundreds of alarms about fireworks and firecrackers. On Wednesday alone, more than 200 alarms arrived in Skåne.

– We’ve been there, about 200 alarms a day for several days, and only those who actually call and sound the alarm, says Magnus Lefèvre.

In Jönköping and Lidköping, among others, people were injured by rockets on Wednesday.

The police emphasize that it is prohibited for people under the age of 18 to use rockets and firecrackers.

– And what we know is a majority who have been away from home for 18 years. There is also parental responsibility in this, Daniel Söderqvist, a press spokesman for the police in the eastern region, told TT on Wednesday.
