Since last spring, the terrorist threat level has been in Sweden unchanged at a high level: one third on a five-point scale.
TT: Why did you decide on a special event now? It does not do this every time a terrorist attack occurs in the vicinity of Sweden.
– It’s a general assessment, of course. In the police we continually carry out various types of efforts to prevent and deter crime, now, for example, to be able to coordinate our work on a special event. It is a natural part of our job.
Therefore, the decision on the special event is not based on any special and concrete threat that has arisen against Sweden, says Jonas Beltrame-Linné.
However, you cannot say how long the special event will last.
TT: Did you understand that this could cause anxiety in humans?
– Sweden is part of Europe and it is natural that when things happen in France, Austria or other parts of the world we have to adapt our way of working to be able to act in case of events. Of course, it can affect the public, but if you see more police in the streets and squares, we want to be clear about why you do it.
TT: Should you act differently in any way if you live in one of the regions where the special event takes place?
– You can pay attention to things. That you report to the police if you see something that worries you or something that breaks patterns. It could be abandoned suitcases or strangely parked vehicles, or people behaving strangely, says Jonas Beltrame-Linné.
