Police Appeal to the Danes: Stop the Party

Recently, the coronavirus has gained momentum in Denmark, with recently established restrictions in Copenhagen and a large spread of the virus locally in various parts of the country.

The increasing spread of the infection has caused authorities, politicians and experts to raise the alarm.

Virology professor Allan Randrup Thomsen tells Politiken that Danes should review their network of contacts and start limiting their circle of friends.

The same call launched on Friday by the Statens Serum Institut health authority, after several of the new victims of Covid-19 turned out to be people between 20 and 29 years old.

– The best we can do right now is to reduce our social circle to 10, a maximum of 20, people and avoid all events that involve other people. At least to the extent that it’s not absolutely necessary, says Allan Randrup Thomsen.

Warns of new restrictions

At 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, the National Police and the Copenhagen Police organized a joint press conference to report on the recent development of covid-19 in both Denmark and Copenhagen.

And the head of the National Police, Thorkild Fogde, warns about new restrictions, if the spread of the infection does not diminish:

– We must have the greatest possible freedom under responsibility. A closure (of the company) has important economic and human consequences. That is why right now we prefer to seek a balance, says Thorkild Fogde, while also affirming:

– But there are many indications that further action may be necessary.

According to Anne Tønnes of the Copenhagen Police, the pressure has been strong on restaurants and nightlife, despite the pandemic. He warns that there is a risk of infection when most young people gather in everything from parks to squares, and when young people are together in queues.

– We risk having to close the city even more, says Anne Tønne.

– Stop partying. Consider whether you need to go out into town on a Saturday. We are in a dire situation that everyone has a responsibility to handle.

A new death in the last 24 hours.

Between Friday and Saturday, 341 new cases of covid-19 were confirmed in Denmark. At the same time, the number of corona patients participating in medical care has decreased by one person, to 43 patients.

– It is a worrying increase what we are seeing these days. Previously, we were able to turn the curve of the pandemic through various initiatives, but actions must be implemented quickly and everyone must be helped to be successful, says Tyra Grove Krause, department head of the Statens Serum Institut, in a press release published on Friday.

In the last 24 hours, the Statens Serum Institut has registered a new death related to covid-19.

Of the total of 98 municipalities in Denmark, 38 now have a spread of the infection that exceeds 20 victims per 100,000 inhabitants, writes DR.
