In late March, the government commissioned the Public Health Authority to develop a new strategy to greatly expand testing for the new coronavirus. A progress report was released today.

Stefan Löfven reiterated the importance of everyone taking responsibility and helping to ensure that medical care is not overloaded.
The Prime Minister also urged all healthy people to shoulder their responsibility in the crisis so that the power of health care enters, and the seriously ill have a better chance of survival.
Police and emergency services can be tried
According to Social Minister Lena Hallengren (S), the sampling has increased significantly since the Public Health Authority was tasked with expanding the evidence.
– Just last week, samples were taken from 19,900 people, which is close to the level we estimate could be analyzed by the end of March by the week, says Lena Hallengren.

The goal is between 50,000 and 100,000 tests per week. But such amounts are weeks away.
– And this adds to the already established capacity for patients, says Lena Hallengren.
The tests will be performed on people with suspected coronary symptoms and will be done by self-sampling at home, developed Johan Carlson, director general of the Public Health Authority. This includes saving on personnel and protective clothing.
– When you try, which is not difficult at all, I have tried it and even succeeded. You don’t need any staff who need to put a visor, etc., says Johan Carlson.
For example, the sampling kit is requested through Care Guide 1177, and the test is sent to a laboratory accredited by the Public Health Authority.
Johan Carlson also mentioned that “power plant personnel” may be relevant to the tests. MSB will help with the evaluation of which should be tested.

No evidence of immunity yet
What many expect is an antibody test, which shows if you have had the coronavirus, and therefore can hope not to have it again. But there the government and the Public Health Authority are not there.
– No country has good tests established. We work with many partners inside and outside Europe to evaluate the evidence, says Johan Carlson, Director General of the Public Health Authority.
This may be relevant in a second step, according to the Minister of Social Affairs.
– We return when there is knowledge about how reliable immunity tests are, what protective immunity is considered to be and how long it lasts, says Lena Hallengren.
