On 23 August, fire broke out in the classic Polarbröd factory in Älvsbyn.

The company’s investigation shows that the dough likely began to burn in the oven and was then transported to the cooling track, which then caught fire.

After that, 131 people have been notified from the factory.

Polarbröd now announces that it is investing SEK 183 million in a new bakery in Älvsbyn, where the goal is to be able to bake again in a year.

“Historic for us”

– This is historic for us. I am happy and proud to have been able to design this first stage so quickly. We will continue to work on the next steps on the new Polarbageriet as soon as we can, and we will see how we take advantage of all the experiences and build a sustainable and human-friendly bakery for the future. This is just the beginning, says Polarbröd Chairman and CEO Karin Bodin in a press release.

The first bakery line will mean jobs for about 25 employees, according to Polarbröd.

Also SEK 13.6 million is being invested in Polarbröd’s second bakery in Bredbyn in Ångermanland to be able to increase production there, which should mean jobs for 18 people.

The commotion was great in Älvsbyn after the fire.
