The extensive fire at the Polarbröd factory in Älvsbyn was said to have started on a conveyor belt. But now the company is backing down and saying no cause can be determined at this time, writes NSD.
The intense fire at Polarbröd in Älvsbyn broke out on the night of Sunday 23 August, only after several days that the rescue service was able to leave the scene of the fire.
Already the day after the strong fire started, Polarbröd announced that it was a piece of dough on a conveyor belt that had caught fire and spread to the ceiling.
Just over a week later, Polarbröd now walks away from that statement, saying that it is still not possible to establish what happened.
– Right now there is no evidence of what in the media has now become a bit of truth, that it was a piece of dough that caught fire and caused the fire. I think everyone can understand that it was an incredibly pressured situation right after the fire. So there was such an assumption. That’s what we can say, says Anders E Johansson, CEO of Polarbröd, to NSD.
According to him, there are still many questions, and at the same time several parallel investigations are being carried out.
– We are in the middle of the spring process, the insurer is doing its thing and the rescue service and the police are also doing investigations. We believe that it is important that the investigation has its way.
The powerful fire, which broke out on the night of Sunday, August 23, was brought under control only on Tuesday. It took another three days before the rescue service could leave the scene and hand over surveillance to an outside company.
More than 200 jobs disappeared in connection with the factory fire. The government has promised support to the small community of just under 5,000 inhabitants.
