It was just before 14 o’clock that the alarm occurred that a plane had fallen in the eye in Njurunda.
A small aircraft, with two people on board, must, for unknown reasons, have landed in the water and, according to the rescue service, was partially below the surface.
The two people on board tried to swim ashore when one of them disappeared.
– We don’t know anything about the cause of the accident. One person landed and was taken by ambulance, says internal commander Thomas Hansson at the rescue service.
The person who was taken to the hospital was severely frozen.
Great search effort during the night.
During Tuesday afternoon, a great effort was made to search for the missing person. Emergency services, police, ambulance were in place. The police diver was sent there with the rescue helicopter from the Swedish Maritime Administration.
At 18 o’clock, the rescue service attempted to tow the plane to land, but then the plane began to drink water and sank, endangering personnel aboard the boat attempting to tow the plane.
– We just had to cut the line, says Thomas Hansson at the rescue service.
The emergency services have marked the place where the plane is located at the bottom.
Later in the night, the police took over the case. At age 21, one last dive was done for the night. Then the missing person was found dead.
Family members have been informed.
