NEW YORK. The Canucks were forced to dispense with successful goalie Jacob Markström last night, but Elias Pettersson played the essential game against Las Vegas.

Therefore, they are still in the Stanley Cup playoffs.

The Swedish superstar decided on the event with a sharp direction.

– We did not play well, especially not in the first two periods, but we still managed to win, he says after the 2-1 victory.

Just hours before the fifth meeting between Las Vegas and Vancouver, the shocking news arrived:

Jacob Markström, who was one of the best goalkeepers in the playoffs and led the Canucks to the quarterfinals, has done poorly and could not play the game.

Thus, many thought the season was over for the young and popular British Columbia pop team.

But no.

Mighty Vegas dominated strongly and won shots 43-17, but Thatcher Demko, who replaced “Markan”, was sensational and stopped 42 of those shots.

– It was absolutely fantastic, Elías praises in the subsequent press conference.

– We did not play well enough, especially the first two periods. They dominated and Thatcher kept us in the game.

Well, Elijah himself was there too.

3.19 in the third period, he stood in front of Robin Lehner at the Las Vegas box office and directed with fantastic precision on a shot from radar partner Brock Boeser, to 2-1.

So it turned out that the match was decided. The Canucks won on just those numbers.

– Boeser made a very good shot and I put the stick there, he says.

– Like I said, we were not good enough in the first two periods, but we talked to each other before the third and we scored that goal early. So we win anyway.

That means they force Vegas to a sixth game. It will be decided the night before Friday.
