The price is unknown, but VG estimates it at around NOK 250 million based on the value of the company.

Founders Petter Stordalen, Jonas Forsang, Magnus Rønningen and Jørn Lier Horst retain a total stake of 30 percent, according to VG.

Earlier this spring, Petter Stordalen sold the Swedish part of the publishing house to Bonnier Books.

Stordalen sells most of the book publisher

In a press release, Petter Stordalen says they need to strengthen the publisher both financially and structurally.

– The book industry is in the midst of major upheavals, and if we want to remain fast and offensive and at the same time strengthen ourselves digitally, we must strengthen the publisher both financially and structurally, he says.

Since April, the parties have had a dialogue about the acquisition.

– We had a good relationship regarding the sale of Strawberry Sweden and Denmark, at the same time that we see clear value in being able to become an even stronger publisher with Bonnier on the team, says head of administration Alexander Henriksen to VG.

Stordalen: “They have the muscles”

In Norway, the publisher has grown to become the fourth largest in the country and home to some of the most prominent authors.

Petter Stordalen says of Bonnier Books:

– They have the weight, the history and the editorial strength we need to continue our growth and challenge the competition in the Norwegian book industry.

After starting the Danish side of the book publishing, Stordalen managed to attract big Swedish names like Camilla Läckberg and Viveca Sten. Later, Olof Lundh was also recruited for Strawberry.
