On Tuesday, submarine builder Peter Madsen tried to escape from Herstedvester prison, where he is serving a life sentence for murder. In a press conference, the head of the prison confirms that Madsen threatened the staff to leave.
At 10.20 local time, the alarm reached the police from Albertslund Prison. Before long, the police were able to find Peter madsen with the help of the prison guards who followed him.
Then he got into a car, half a kilometer from the prison.
– He meets him just before the patrol reaches him, says the police inspector. Mogen lauridsen at a press conference Tuesday afternoon.
Police do not believe the driver was involved in the escape plans, but will now be questioned.
Madsen used a gun-like object in the escape attempt and had a belt around his waist that looked like a bomb belt. According to Lauridsen, the patrol withdrew and bomb experts were called in.
Therefore, the situation continued for a time. In the images, Madsen could be seen sitting in a ditch surrounded by policemen. The impact was massive.
– There is no indication that there were explosives in the bomb belt, says Police Inspector Mogen Lauridsen.
This will also be investigated further, but police believe it was a doll.
Hostage?
According to Ekstra Bladet sources, Peter Madsen took a psychologist hostage and threatened her with an object resembling a gun.
– The weapon was realistic, so the prison guards at the door did not dare to take any risk in relation to the hostage, which they judged was in the food, and chose to let him out the door, says the president of the Association of Prisons. Bo Yde Sørensen to the newspaper.
Prison chief Hanne Høegh Rasmussen he does not want to comment on that information during the press conference.
When asked how the whole thing could have happened, she replies that they review the security processes and then assess whether they need to be changed.
Herstedvester Prison specializes in treating sex offenders and people who are considered dangerous. It is about 15 kilometers west of Copenhagen.
Peter Madsen has previously been isolated due to suspicions of possible escape plans.
Høegh Rasmussen does not want to comment on prison staff who are aware of the escape plans.
The submarine builder Madsen was sentenced by the Copenhagen district court (equivalent to the district court) to life imprisonment for the murder of the Swedish journalist. Kim wall. She accompanied Madsen on his UC3 Nautilus submarine to interview him.
The court justified its sanction by saying that it was a cynical and planned sexual assault and a particularly brutal murder of a randomly selected woman, who in her profession as a journalist agreed to take a submarine trip.
The cause of death has not been determined and Peter Madsen claims that Kim Wall was killed in an accident aboard the submarine. He had previously denied the murder, but admitted that he cut up Wall and dumped the body parts into the sea.
The verdict was appealed to the next court, the district court, which determined life in prison.
