AIK’s 34-year-old Per Karlsson grew up in the club and made his debut for the A-team on May 29, 2003. Earlier this year, the defender became the association’s most outstanding player in all tournaments. Karlsson has had a contract that was about to expire this season, but now it is clear that the 34-year-old will stay longer.
This is because AIK now announces that the club and Per Karlsson have agreed to an extension that runs until December 31, 2022.
– I am proud and very happy for the opportunity to represent AIK for another two years. On a personal level, I hope to acquire new knowledge and develop as a player, but above all I will work to help the club return to where it belongs. I look to the future of AIK with great confidence and am happily a part of it, says Per Karlsson on the club’s website.
AIK Sporting Director Henrik Jurelius on the extension:
– I am very happy that AIK Football has the opportunity to stay with Per for another two years. He is a unique cultural carrier that we should all be very proud to have at the club for so many years. His professionalism has taken him so far and now he is also a great source of inspiration for our younger players both in games and in training, he says.
Per Karlsson has played 410 competitive matches for AIK, which is a club record.
