Some Republican lawmakers suspected of helping the rebels are singled out. The day before the storm, on January 5, Democratic Member Mikie Sherrill claims to have seen colleagues in Congress lead groups around “scouting tours” of the building.
Suspicions have been raised that some of the insurgents appear to have had detailed knowledge of the whereabouts of some of the members’ offices.
“If it can really be established that members of Congress were complicit in this uprising, if they facilitated and supported the criminal acts, it may be necessary to take measures that go beyond Congress, in the form of prosecution,” said Nancy Pelosi, president of the House of Representatives, one of the two congressmen. Chamber, at a press conference on Friday, in response to the question of whether any action will be taken against the members accused of leading the suspicious tours.
Police is on the case
Police are investigating, according to CNN, the possibility that bona fide members showed up around people on Capitol Hill the day before the attack, people who later participated in the storm. So far, the FBI has arrested more than 100 people in connection with the storm.
Speculation that members may have been involved in the attack has led the Democratic majority to install metal detectors at the entrance to the House of Representatives, which everyone must pass through. Several Republican members have loudly protested the security measure.
Internal investigation
Hundreds of protesters were easily able to force police roadblocks, which has also raised questions about security preparations.
Internal investigators from the United States Department of Justice, along with various other ministries and federal agencies involved in the operation, will investigate how the agencies handled preparations for the gigantic demonstrations.
Five people were killed in connection with the attack on the United States Congress on January 6. A second historic trial now awaits President Donald Trump, who through his fiery speech shortly before the storm is accused of inciting the attack, all to stop the approval of the electoral victory of current President Joe Biden.
