Pelle Svensson first became known to the Swedish people as a successful fighter. The profile took Olympic silver in Tokyo in 1964 and followed it up with double World Cup gold and European Championship gold. At first, he was nicknamed Pelle Sving for his deft neck movements.

After a long illness, Pelle Svensson has died, his wife Pia confirms for Sundsvalls Tidning on Thursday.
– It is very hard, but it was peaceful and he was so kind and he was so peaceful, his wife Pia tells the newspaper.
For the last time in his life, the two-time world champion lived in a service house in Sundsvall.
– He was a great profile in many ways throughout life and on all possible levels. When he fell asleep, he was wearing SAIK jumpsuit, Olympic silver and World Cup gold on his chest. I think he liked it, says his son Fredrik.
In an interview with ST in February, Pelle Svensson spoke about fighting cancer.
– This is the term, I can sit here, he said.
– I’m not going and I’m afraid of death, it’s the only thing that nobody can escape from.
