The threat of distrust towards Stefan Löfven hovered in the air before the party leader debate, but was mitigated by the V leader, Jonas Sjöstedt.
He said he was willing to wait “a little longer” for information from the government and parties in January on the latest investigation:
– The answers are so hairy, you don’t know what they really think. But this is worth doing for a few weeks. I am ready to speak.

The debate is decided in four duels. From the beginning, the idea was that it would start with the issue of crime and a duel between Prime Minister Stefan Löfven (S) and the moderate leader Ulf Kristersson.
But at the last moment, and faced with the threat of distrust towards Löfven, SVT issued the order. The first out was a duel for the works between Jonas Sjöstedt (V) and Annie Lööf (C).
He was immediately hot about the latest investigation.
– The greatest deterioration in job security in modern times. You have sabotaged the Swedish model, said Jonas Sjöstedt.
Annie Lööf reiterated her earlier statement that she wants the social partners to have more time. Otherwise, the latest research should be used.
– Now the partners are very close. It would be best if the partners agreed. It is a solid investigation developed by the main experts in the country. It shows when Jonas Sjöstedt argues that he hasn’t read it, he said.
“You boil”
Jonas Sjöstedt rated the latest investigation “10-0 employers.” Lööf thought Jonas Sjöstedt was “seething with ideological anger.”
– Entrepreneurs could only hope this was nothing. You have intervened, you have destroyed the Swedish model, said Sjöstedt.
Jonas Sjöstedt had demanded in advance from Stefan Löfven if he was willing to withdraw the latest investigation.
Löfven said this when the question was asked at the top of the debate:
– My message is this. The parties want to make an amendment to the Employment Protection Law and labor law in a broader sense. There is will. One: how to do it. Two: What should the change be?
Löfven wants to give more time to parties:
– Neither party has said they locked the door and threw the key away.
Löfven said the social partners “negotiate a change” between greater flexibility for employers and greater security for employees.
– If now it definitely does not exist, we have a January agreement, said Löfven.
– The investigation is now under consultation. We have sent it to 57 different instances. All of us who defend the Swedish model must think that it is worth listening to then.
Jonas Sjöstedt replied that Stefan Löfven is “dishonest”:
– I think Stefan Löfven is dishonest. It is Stefan Löfven who wants to promote an investigation that destroys job security and goes against a unanimous trade union movement, which wants to break the Swedish model.
When asked if he thinks he received a message from Stefan Löfven, Jonas Sjöstedt replied:
– Stefan Löven is extremely confusing. It’s sad to see an old metal president who can’t side with metal workers.
Löfven replied:
– The research that has been produced is not balanced. We must have a balanced bill between the parties, said Löfven and open to changes regarding, for example, the annulment of layoffs.
– Then we will form a proposal that maintains the balance, said Löfven.
Jonas Sjöstedt said then that he is willing to wait to arouse mistrust.
– We want to give this government the opportunity, the opportunity to do the right thing. I think the parties should resolve this. I don’t want to break the Swedish model. I will continue to give the government and the January parties a chance for a while longer.
For how long? asked host Anders Holmberg.
– If then. The answers are so hairy, you don’t know what they really think. It seems to be here and there. But this is worth doing for a few weeks. I’m ready to talk, both to Stefan Löfven … you can bring Annie Lööf with you if you don’t want to talk to myself. And then we can discuss these things, because this can be solved, Sjöstedt replies.
How hairy are your own responses when it comes to time? Anders Holmberg asked.
– It’s very clear. If we end up in a situation where these four parties say that this investigation will now take place, which creates total arbitrariness in case of dismissals, then Stefan Löfven no longer has our trust as Prime Minister. Then there will be a by-election. We are not there yet. But I hope Stefan Löfven clears up so that we don’t end there.
