Sajid Hussain reportedly disappeared three days after he disappeared without a trace in Uppsala in early March.
Hussain fled Pakistan in 2012 and had political asylum in Sweden since 2019. He worked for the government-critical newspaper Baluchistan Times, which, among other things, monitors human rights violations in the province of Baluchistan in southwest Pakistan.
According to Swedish journalists without borders, Hussain was particularly exposed to risks that may be related to the disappearance, and the Uppsala police investigated the situation.
Police now say that Sajid Hussain was found dead. Her body was found in Fyrisån, north of Uppsala, on April 23. However, it has taken time for the police to determine the identity. His relatives have been informed of the death.
Homicide investigation launched
It is unclear how Hussain died and the police have launched a preliminary investigation into the murder. However, suspicions are weak, police say. Through their website they write:
