Overcrowding at Götaplatsen on New Year’s Eve

After Christmas Eve passed rather calmly, the police hoped it would be a similar night on New Year’s Eve. But instead, it became more work than expected for the police.

In various places in western Sweden, people gathered to watch fireworks. During New Year’s Eve, the police estimated that around 3,000 people were in Götaplatsen. Something that makes the police react.

– It generated a lot of work for colleagues. It is sad that this happens on New Years Eve. If you go out and you’re crowded, you haven’t really understood what has happened lately, says Christer Fuxborg, press spokesman for the police in the West region.

Not only is there a great risk of spreading corona infection, but it also increases the risk of getting into trouble.

– We have also seen him with a dozen fights in the region and then you don’t keep your distance. It’s a bit disconcerting. What do not you understand? Christer Fuxborg says.
