Outbreaks between students and hockey teams

In week 36, between August 31 and September 6, 1,332 people were found to be infected with the coronavirus. Since then, the number of infected people has increased every week, and last week the number of new cases reached 3,640.

Stockholm, Skåne and Uppsala are some of the regions that saw an increase last week.

At Tuesday’s press conference, state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell said they are now trying to understand what’s behind the increase.

– We have seen many outbursts between athletes from different teams, especially the hockey teams.

Student parties are also noted as the driving force behind the spread of the infection.

– In quite a few of them, we now see a fairly large distribution, says Anders Tegnell.

It does not exclude new restrictions.

It is mainly in the younger age groups where the number of infections increases. According to the state epidemiologist, this may also explain the fact that the death toll remains low, as well as the number of intensive care units.

When asked by TV4 if the new restrictions may be relevant, Tegnell responds:

– Yes, it may be, first of all we want to continue working with this information path and I think it is very important to create an understanding of where it is most important. If we go back and stick with the rules from last spring, there is probably every reason to believe that we can have a fairly uneventful fall as well.

To protect society against the coronavirus, a flock immunity of just over 40 percent, not 60 percent, which is considered necessary for disease, may be sufficient.
