Following last week’s serious fatal accident, the Östersund municipality has started an inventory to ensure that no more explosive chests remain untouched. It was while handling such a coffin that the accident occurred.

On Monday, an explosive coffin was found on the ground near the municipal recycling center in Lit, north of Östersund, reports SVT Jämtland.

It is unknown what it contains and the place has been blocked and guarded by guards until personnel with the appropriate skills can take over, says Örjan Jervidal, head of the municipality’s technical administration.

On 25 November a man in his 30s was killed and a man in his 60s was seriously injured in an explosion in the Lugnvik industrial area in Östersund.

They have just handled a box of explosives in a stone deposit that belongs to the municipality. This despite the fact that the municipality has not handled explosives in little more than a decade.

That place has also been cordoned off and guarded by guards. The municipality expects more finds during the inventory.

– I would be surprised if more did not come out during the inventory, says the head of administration Örjan Jervidal to SVT Jämtland.

The case is being investigated as a work-related crime by causing the death of another person and causing bodily injury. Prosecutor Märta Warg tells Östersunds-Posten that interrogations with supervisors and others in the municipality are next in the line of investigation.

Police have not yet been able to hear the man who was injured in the blast.
