Östersund board member Robert Sundqvist is dead.

Östersund is in mourning.

Board member Robert Sundqvist died in connection with a car accident on Friday. Also in the car was the academy director, Stefan Lundin, who is now being treated at the hospital.

– I cannot find words to describe the pain, says the club’s executive director, Michael Schahine.

When Sportbladet reaches the CEO of Östersund on Saturday, the pain is clearly heard in his voice.

– What to say? He’s a close colleague. A father with a family. I can’t find words to describe the pain, says Michael Schahine.

“It feels unreal”

The tragic news reached Michael Schahine on Friday night. The board member, Robert Sundqvist, had died in a car accident in Ånge earlier that afternoon.

Included in the car was the club’s academy director, Stefan Lundin. He was seriously injured in the accident and is now being treated at Uppsala University Hospital.

– I was surprised. It felt unreal. My first reaction was to contact family members, says Michael Schahine.

Play with the mourning band

During Sunday’s game against Malmö, Östersund will perform with mourning bands.

– Robert was extremely active on many important issues of the association. It leaves a big void that will be difficult to fill. But that is not what we are thinking at the moment. My thoughts go out to Roberts and Stefan’s family, says Michael Schahine.
