A new research study carried out by Danish Rigshospitalet now shows that mouth protection has no particular effect on reducing the spread of infection.
More than 6,000 Danes took part in the study, which tested the effectiveness of protective masks.
The protective masks were used as a supplement to other agency recommendations such as social distancing, hand hygiene and isolation.
“Does not confirm the halving”
Half of the study participants wore a surgical mask outside the home and the other half did not.
After a month, the study was followed up and then 1.8 percent of the participants who wore the mask had an infection and 2.1 percent of the participants without the mask had an infection.
Therefore, the study does not confirm the expected halving of the risk of infection in the group carrying the worm.
“However, the results show increased protection against coronavirus by 15-20 percent.”Rigshospitalet writes on his website.
The bottom line is that the study cannot rule out that the mask does not protect the wearer.
