Bank ID experiences interruptions after an overload attack.

Bank ID, an electronic identification service, is down for some users, Aftonbladet reports. The problems started on Sunday morning and can continue throughout the day.

– During the morning you could experience shorter temporary disturbances. We dare not say they are completely over, says Malin Wemnell, press contact at Bank ID.

The disturbances are due to the congestion attack that Bank ID was exposed to on Tuesday.

– An overload attack is when you attack a service and there is so much traffic that the service becomes inaccessible or difficult to reach.

During Tuesday, the service, which is used to access Swish, banks and government sites, was idle for several hours.

– What happened is that we continue to have repercussions from the congestion attack to which we were exposed this week. It is not a new attack but it is a later one.

It is still unclear why the Bank’s identification was exposed to this attack, but an investigation is ongoing.

Not all Bank ID users are affected by outages, and it is unclear how many do not access the service.

– We do everything possible so that the service is updated, accessible and secure. We hope that the problems will be resolved soon, says Malin Wemnell.
