The derby at southern hockeyettan between Nybro and Vimmerby would have been played on Wednesday night. But on the way to the game, Vimmerby’s athletic director decided to flip the bus, something that Dagens Vimmerby was the first to tell. During the day, two players had received confirmed COVID and several others on the bus began to feel unwell.
But if the association had been able to decide, the match would have been played, despite two confirmed cases. But Morgan Persson, Vimmerby Hockey’s athletic director, defends his decision.
– It feels like the right decision, it’s not talking either. It is taken on the basis of social responsibility, I also think about the safety of Nybro players and the referees. I’m sorry I sent the bus from the beginning, he tells SVT.
Can lose
Nybro Vikings did not want to cancel the match, and the Swedish Ice Hockey Association is said to have said that Vimmerby hockey is at risk of losing in a walkover if they don’t play the match. According to the regulations, there must be at least five confirmed cases for a match to be canceled.
– We had a confirmed COVID drop and after yesterday’s quick test we got another one. Then we had three players with symptoms and when the bus started rolling, several people started to feel uncomfortable, says Morgan Persson and continues:
– I have made the right decision based on my responsibility.
On Wednesday night, Vimmerby Hockey management also made the decision to pause A-team activities for the time being.
