It was the opening day of “Stars at the Castle”, featuring Kjell Wilhelmsen, Ernst Billgren, Shima Niavarani, Ola Rapace and Charlotte Perrelli. The first to come out is Ola Rapace.

The actor was called by the production a few days after criticizing the entire format of the show in a podcast. That SVT invited him, despite the earlier outburst, it made him finally say yes.

– I thought, then they are tough, then I want to join, says Ola Rapace.

But the 49-year-old actor didn’t have high expectations for the shoot.

– My expectation was: nightmare. What happened was much better than I thought.

What were these nightmare thoughts like?

– It seemed like I would have to sit and hang out with idiots, and they weren’t idiots, says Ola Rapace and continues:

– Charlotte and Ernst were the ones who impressed me the most, they have lived and were much smarter than I thought.

In “The Stars in the Castle”, the participants often recount difficult periods in their lives. Ola Rapace chose, among other things, to talk about the suicide of her friend and colleague Johanna Sällström.

– I have no problem opening myself in the right context. In fact, I think it’s okay to talk about difficult things with the right people, and these were the right people, he says.

He himself was the most affected by Charlotte Perrelli’s life story.

– Going around as a lonely girl in a dance band, I could relate to that somehow. All my life I have felt like a lonely girl in a dance band.

He compares it to the requirements of being at the center.

– You are the only one who has to fight, at the same time you should not be too much, and so on. I really recognize myself in his story in a strange way.

Due to the pandemic, several of the productions in which Ola Rapace would participate have been canceled. He himself is highly critical of how Sweden has handled the corona pandemic and what effects it has had on the culture industry.

– It has been horrible, it has meant that I have not been able to work with what I would have worked with. It has also meant that I have been poor, without hope, he says.

He also reveals that it was the canceled movie recordings that gave him a spot on the “Stars at the Castle” schedule.

– It is clear that he would never have been in “The Stars in the Castle” if he had been able to work with real things, he says.
