Senior executives from the municipalities of Sörmland and the Sörmland Region have been notified by JO. Stock Photography.

Managers and top officials in various municipalities in Sörmland, as well as in the Sörmland region, have been notified by JO for having withheld information about the spread of the coronavirus in nursing homes.

According to the notifier, officials have violated the publicity principle and are guilty of serious misconduct and refer to an examination by Eskilstuna-Kuriren, Södermanland Nyheter and Katrineholms-Kuriren.

Journalists have requested information about the spread of the infection in elderly care in the municipalities of Sörmland, but have been denied responses. The reasons have been that privacy applies and / or that the information is not available. However, according to the audit, municipalities reported the status of the infection to the county administrative board. According to the emails the newspapers have taken note of, the managers did not want this information to reach the media, and an agreement to reject the newspaper’s request and delay the response should have been made at a meeting with municipal representatives and the Sörmland Region.

One of Sörmland’s municipalities, Katrineholm, released information on Monday about how many people with home care, nursing home or LSS activities were infected.

The Sörmland region has been one of the most affected regions to date during the crown pandemic.
