The talent of IFK Norrköping Pontus Almqvist, 21, this year he made his way into the Allsvenskan with five goals in 20 games, of which five from the start. In addition, he has also joined the Swedish Under-21 national team and scored two goals against Italy in September in the European Under-21 Championship qualifiers.

Now Norrköping announces that the talent is leaving the club to play for the Russian team Rostov, which is in seventh place in the Russian top flight. Almqvist is happy that the transition has been made.

I want to thank all the fantastic fans, the guys on the team and the senior staff. Without you, I would never have had this opportunity and I am incredibly grateful for my five years at IFK Norrköping. I would like to extend a big thank you to Jens Gustafsson and Marcus Falk Olander, without them I would not have come here. IFK Norrköping is the best club in Sweden for young players who want to go one step further. I wish the club good luck and we may see each other in the future, says the 21-year-old in a comment on the IFK website.

Beijing coach Jens Gustafsson on Almqvist’s decision:

Pontus has had a fantastic trip with us. He has worked very hard and along the way he learned to manage both his lifestyle as an elite footballer and his physical conditions. Being able to guide him, help him and follow the development he has had has been a privilege for all of us. We are extremely proud of Pontus and the development he has had with us, and we are happy to be again proud that another IFK Norrköping player has the opportunity to achieve his dreams, he says.

Aftonbladet stated on Thursday that the transfer fee is 35 million SEK.

Almqvist first came to the Beijing Academy in 2015, but then left and returned in 2016 again. In 2017, he made his Allsvenskan debut. Now, instead, he will be a teammate with compatriots Dennis Hadzikadunic and Armin Gigovic. Just Gigovic was also ready for Rostov on Thursday.
