A 17-year-old boy was shot and killed in Eskilstuna on Thursday night.
Hours later, a young man was shot and killed in a Nyköping school.
– Currently we do not see any connection, but it is something we are investigating, says Thomas Agnevik, police spokesman.
Södermanland police have started a special incident after two people were shot dead in Eskilstuna and Nyköping in a few hours on Thursday night.
At 7:50 p.m., the Nyfors district police in Eskilstuna were alerted after heavy pounding was heard in the area. According to information from Aftonbladet, someone must have fired from a car.
A bullet-wounded child was found at the scene. He died from his injuries that same night. Family members have been notified of the death.
Increase police presence
The victim is younger than the police previously stated.
– He was born in 2003, says Christer Sjöqvist, area manager for the local police in Eskilstuna, on Friday morning.
No suspect has yet been arrested.
– Obviously we work with the investigation, obtaining evidence in situ, interrogations and things like that. We are building a special investigation organization. And we will also work with security-building measures in the form of increased police presence in the area, now and in the coming days, Christer Sjöqvist continues.
Young man shot at school
Shortly before midnight, another shooting occurred in Södermanland, in the Brandkärr district of Nyköping.
An injured man was found near a school. The man was reportedly seriously injured and taken to hospital by ambulance, but later died from the injuries.
– He’s a man in his 20s. We didn’t know him before, says Johan Levin, area manager for the local police in Nyköping.
No arrests
During the night, the crime scene has been cordoned off and technicians have conducted an investigation of the crime scene.
– We have worked on a broad front with this all night and we continue with it throughout the day. What we do know is that the person was hit by some kind of weapon. The investigation must show how many shots were fired, says Johan Levin.
No person has yet been arrested on suspicion of murder.
– We are now entering an intensive phase of the investigation and will be working hard with this throughout the weekend, partly with information retrieval on the investigation side and for the purpose of creating security with the police patrolling the streets says Johan Levin.
The Eskilstuna and Nyköping police would like to receive information about the incidents at telephone number 114 14.
Special event starts
Due to the two shootings, the Södermanland police have started an alleged special incident.
– We are blurring the usual organizational boundaries and leading the work of a special staff who have all the resources throughout the region at their disposal, says Thomas Agnevik, spokesman for the Eastern Police Region.
Is there a connection between the murders?
– It is not what we see at the moment, but it cannot be ruled out and it is one of the most important issues at the moment. We looked at it more closely in the research, says Thomas Agnevik.
