Staff from several nursing homes in the Stockholm region will begin rapid tests for the coronavirus under test, Ekot reports.

By testing personnel in parallel with standard PCR tests and much faster antigen tests, authorities want to see if the rapid test is reliable enough.

The trial is a collaboration between the Swedish Public Health Agency, Smittskydd Stockholm, researchers from Karolinska, and various nursing homes. The hope is to prevent a recurrence of the high-spreading spring infection in nursing homes.

– If this goes well, then we can get a tool to be able to monitor the staff, to stop the spread of the infection to the nursing homes before it has time to establish itself among the residents, says Stefan Amér, head of Family Doctors, who is responsible for medical care in about half of the nursing homes in the Stockholm region.

Initially, about a hundred employees are covered and the business will start as soon as possible.
